Next week NSW Parliament will decide whether or not to legislate ‘safe access zone’ that would afford patients the privacy and dignity they deserve when accessing abortion services.

Those who oppose these protections are making a last ditch attempt to stop it by flooding MLAs with calls to oppose the change. We need to make sure all MPs know the majority of their constituents support voting yes. Can you take a minute to get in touch with your local representative to let them know you want them to vote yes to protecting patients from the gauntlet of abuse and harassment ...

We can't let those who oppose this change have the loudest voice. We need to show as much support as possible before the final vote next Thursday.

Your message will be far more effective if you take a bit of time to personalise it. Let your state MLA know why this issue matters to you. Would it change the way you vote? 

It's your message, so you should feel free to write whatever you want to say, but here are a few tips for what you might like to include:

  • Introduce yourself: explain where you live and why you care about this issue. If you voted for your MP at the last election or have another personal connection to them, be sure to mention that. (NB: You don't need to write Dear... the system will automatically add in your MPs name)
  • Explain the reason you're emailing: let them know you're emailing to urge them to vote in favour of safe access zones. 
  • Share why you care about this issue.
  • Let them know if this is an issue that will affect your vote. We know this is an extremely important issue to many people. If your MP's vote on this issue will affect your vote at the upcoming election, be sure to let them know. 
  • Thank them for their time and consideration.
  • NB: your name and address details will be automatically included at the bottom
