They made promises for good headlines - but now - with just a handful of sitting days before the election - they say they have no intention of delivering on that promise in this parliament.

It’s an outrageous failure of victim-survivors. We cannot let this pass without accountability, and backlash.

Legislating for pre-recorded testimony is vital - but it’s also just one of many changes victim-survivors need, and deserve. Across the state, too many victim-survivors are being harmed by traumatising court processes; and left without timely access to the service support and care they need.

Can you let your representatives know you’re appalled by this failure to act; and demand more from anyone asking for your vote in the upcoming election?

Specifically, ask who will commit to deliver change in the first 100 days of the new parliament. Including:

legislating to enable victim-survivors to pre-record their testimony;
legislating to protect survivors’ counselling notes; and
increasing funding for sexual assault services to help them meet demand

I am writing as your constituent because I am furious that the Carroll Labor Government has failed to follow through on the promise made in April to allow rape survivors to pre-record their testimony, and to protect their counselling notes.

I have been one of the thousands of Victorians advocating for this reform. I know Governments can deliver reforms quickly on issues they care about. I can’t believe that a promise from April won’t be delivered in this parliament, and that victim-survivors are being let down on such an important promise.

I know that Victorian victim-survivors of sexual assault are being let down in multiple ways - they’re being harmed by traumatic court processes; left without timely access to service support; and without timely access to care after an assault.

Reforms to enable pre-recording of testimony was just the first step in reforms victim-survivors desperately need, and deserve, to reduce the trauma of court processes, and support their healing and recover. I’m appalled that even this small piece of progress hasn’t been delivered.

I’m writing because I want you to know that this is a priority issue for me in the coming election - and to ask you what you, and any party you are part of, is going to do to for victim-survivors of sexual assault. Specifically whether you will, in the first 100 days of the new parliament:

- Act to enable victim-survivors to pre-record their testimony?
- Act to protect survivors’ counselling notes?
- Act to ensure increased funding for sexual assault services to ensure they can meet demand?

I look forward to your response, and hearing the details on what you will champion for the victim-survivors in your community during the first 100 days of the new parliament.
