The South Australian Government has recently released a Model of Care Framework for abortion access in South Australia which, if implemented, will improve access to abortion care for all South Australians.

While it is exciting to see such a good model of care proposed, there is a real concern that, at this stage, there is no funding to implement these plans. Without funds and attention, the risk is that the plan will simply gather dust on the shelf.

Abortion care has faced multiple attacks in South Australia over the last two years. Each time these attacks have been defeated thanks to thousands of South Australians standing up for legal abortion care. But abortion care needs to be more than just legal - it needs to be safe, accessible and affordable for all South Australians. We need to show the state government that South Australians want to be able to access care in their communities.

I am pleased to hear that the South Australian Government has recently released a new Model of Care for abortion access in the state which, if implemented, would improve access to abortion care for all South Australians. I commend you on these plans.

The Model of Care, which includes plans to establish a single booking service and telehealth service for abortion care access, is an important first step to removing the barriers that currently exist for those accessing abortion care in South Australia.

I am concerned that without focus and funding to deliver these plans, this opportunity to improve abortion access will be ignored.

Abortion access should not be dependent on where you live, what you earn, and whether you can navigate a complex health system quickly. A woman should be able to access abortion care in her community.

South Australians have shown repeatedly that they support abortion access through standing up against attacks on abortion laws in parliament.

As a South Australian, I want to see this Model of Care implemented and rolled out so that all South Australians have timely and efficient access to the healthcare they need, when they need it.
